Yes, Bridie was bored. More than anything else, she was seriously bored. She should be doing her paper on Trickster's Influence on Literature, but she was on a mission. A very important mission.
Earlier that day when she came back from class she went rummaging through the fridge and freezer. Only to find lawn gnomes in the freezer. Yes, the freezer. Of course she texted Jos right away. And of course, Jos was of little help as to why there were lawn gnomes in her freezer. She thought to text Will about it, but figured she didn't need his detective skills. She had her own detecting skills after all, and now was time to put her skills to use.
Decked in all camouflage and dark sunglasses, she went up to the third floor where Jos said the people who put the lawn gnomes in the freezer lived. Of course, there was a very good chance that the perpetrators didn't live there at all. Jos wasn't very good at paying attention to important details like that. But it didn't matter because Bridie was extremely bored. And feeling silly. And so she was more than determined to stalk the halls. And sneak Will's old shoes into someone's freezer. She was very determined.

Teddy was the opposite of bored. Being the time of night it was, Teddy was mostly just tired and ready to go to bed, not preparing to get up and do some more things. He had a busy enough day as it was and, with the only people in the apartment being sound asleep, there wasn't much left to do but take his t-shirt and pajama pants--which he only wore as a courtesy to Beth when he was walking around the apartment--off and get in bed.
Then, there was the girl lurking outside. Teddy had been preparing to pull his shirt off in the kitchen while making himself a cup of tea, but he'd seen the girl out the window and stopped. He would have continued had he not seen her a couple more times and, when he peeked out the door, she was still lurking. Now, because Beth couldn't do anything when she first woke up, he felt obliged to stay awake and make sure everything was okay. He didn't know when Hugo would be home so he didn't want to just leave the situation to him, which meant no sleeping until the girl was gone.
After texting Alistar, though, he started to get drowsy. The chair he'd brought into the kitchen to use while he peeked out the window was comfortable and he rested his elbow on the counter and his head on his hand. He realized he was drifting off when the phone buzzing startled him, at which point he decided that it was time to investigate the matter fully. He didn't think he needed a weapon for this encounter, but just in case, he grabbed a roll of quarters he kept on the kitchen counter in a bowl of flowers and stuffed it in his pocket.
Slipping on a pair of flip flops, he stepped out the door and looked around. The girl wasn't near his door at the moment, so he sighed and looked around for her. Once spotted, he shuffled over, arms folded. "Hey," he called, voice a low whisper so as not to upset anyone else living there. "Do you need something?" He still couldn't tell what she was holding, but it didn't look like a projectile weapon and the roll of quarters in his pocket was at least a little comforting.

Bridie didn’t like to be snuck up on. She didn’t like to be caught off guard. It didn’t happen often, but happened occasionally. And this was one of those moments. Most girls would scream, maybe shriek, and jump a little in their skin. Bridie just turned around very slowly, the smallest and most inaudible squeak escaped her lips before she managed to gain composure. She smiled.
”Just lookin’ abit, mate.” She pressed the lawn gnomes closer to her chest, almost as if concealing them. Looking up and down the hall, she tried to figure out the best way to approach the situation. Her eyes widened ever so slightly when she noticed he left his front door ajar. ”Here, min’ holdin’ this for a moment?”
Bridie thrust the gnomes into his hands and before he had time to react, she sprinted to his door. She was fast. It came from all the working out and running. She was slight and didn’t look all too strong, but she was. And even if she wasn’t, she was hoping he was too confused to catch on. His apartment was very similar to hers. It opened to a little living room area, to the left of the front door was the kitchen. Pulling Will’s shoes from her bag, she quickly tried to stuff them in the freezer. [/blockquote]

To say that Teddy was surprised would be an understatement. He had expected the girl to look a little shifty, maybe try to sneak away, but he had not expected her to invade his apartment while he was standing right there, holding her lawn gnomes--which was also not what he'd been expecting the bundle in her arms to be. As soon as he saw what she was doing, he dropped the gnome and lunged after her. He didn't have time to go for his quarters, but he didn't think he would have done that anyway--she didn't deserve getting conked on the head unless she actually started doing something dangerous.
He was on her heels the whole time, so much so that he almost got knocked in the face with the freezer door. There wasn't much she could do in the freezer, since it was stuffed to capacity with frozen pizza, Lean Cuisines, and various other bad for you frozen snacks, but Teddy didn't want to take any chances since none of his roommates could do much other than defrost food. He grabbed her around the middle, tugging her backwards to the counter where he had left his wallet and his keys.
"Freeze," he said in the most threatening tone he could muster while still being quiet enough that hopefully Beth wouldn't wake up. "Police." He flipped his wallet open and flashed his badge in front of her face, closing his wallet when he had deemed she'd had long enough to study it and stuffing it and his keys into his pocket. He didn't know if she was just a frozen pizza bandit or what, but he wasn't taking any chances.

It shouldn’t have been surprising that some people’s freezers were stocked with food. Hers just had ice cream and frozen peas. Sometimes it had other things like Lean Cuisines and hot pockets and other frozen meals. But that was usually when Bridie was going out of town or just feeling very lazy one week, since Jos couldn’t cook and Brid did all the cooking.
It also shouldn’t have been surprising that he caught her before she managed to shove Will’s shoes in the freezer. Okay, well, that surprised her slightly. Bridie had a lot of confidence when it came to her speed. But she was going to be caught eventually. Even if he didn’t catch her at that moment of confusion when she opened the freezer and saw that there wasn’t room, he would have caught her on the way out. She didn’t exactly think the whole plan through.
Of course, only Jos would let strangers into their apartment because she couldn’t be bothered to miss her movie. Most people would be rather upset about it. Bridie knew she’d probably deck whoever left the lawn gnomes in her freezer. Then again, if she did that, there wouldn’t be any mysterious lawn gnomes to be found.
It was surprising when the guy, who she judged to be rather adorable, said police. She looked over his shoulder and gave him her most charming smile. ”Arenae you aff duty? ‘En again, this is hoose invasion.” Her smile turned into a grin. ”Still, I come in peace. I promise.” She raised her hands as much as she could with him holding her, Will’s shoes in her left hand. [/blockquote]

Teddy had to admit--the girl had balls. Here she was, breaking into his apartment, and telling him that he was off duty when he tried to stop her. He couldn't decide if he wished Hugo was there--on one hand, Hugo would have known what to say, but on the other hand, he also would have said words, which oftentimes did not go over well with most people. Teddy did not let go of her, though he would have liked to at least adjust himself. He didn't want to take any chances.
"This is actually my house that you're invading," he said, gesturing toward all of his things with his hand while not removing the rest of his arm from her. "I'm reinstating myself as on the clock." Her reassurance that she came in peace did not exactly comfort him, but the fact that she wasn't struggling did so he was a little bit more okay with being more or less weaponless, unless he decided to throw her against the wall. He didn't relish the idea of doing that, though--he'd hurt her more than necessary.
He started moving toward the door, intending to get her out of the apartment, lock the door, and then escort her out of the building--or to her own apartment, if she lived there. There was one thing that was confusing him, though, and he had to ask about it. "So, what's with the shoes?"

"I'm reinstating myself as on the clock."
Bridie almost panicked at that but kept on grinning at him like a loon. "Noo jist haud on, hell slap it intae you. You left th' door wide open. It was practically an invite." He didn't let go of her though, just walked her toward the door before asking about the shoes.
She dug her heels into the ground so he had a hard time pushing her. "Oh, yeah. See, someain pit a green gnome in mah freezer. Though it micht be you. Jist repayin' th' favor." Looking around she frowned slightly. "Where is the green gnome anyway?"

"No," Teddy said, shaking his head and continuing to haul her toward the door. In his time as everyone's bitch at the police station, he had gotten used to lugging heavy things around, so even though it was a little more difficult, he didn't mind too much. "That's not how it works. Breaking into people's houses is a crime and I could arrest you for it pretty easily." He was not, of course, going to arrest her unless she did something particularly stupid.
The door wasn't too far and it didn't take long to make it there. Once they were in the hallway, he let go of her, planting himself in the doorway so that she couldn't get in. He could have closed the door, but he wasn't sure what shenanigans she might get up to while he was locking it and so being a human door just seemed like the safer option. If she made another run for his kitchen, he could easily grab her.
"Oh, I see," he said, drawing his eyebrows together in a way that suggested he didn't actually see at all. "That makes perfect sense." He rolled his eyes and looked around for where he'd dropped the gnome, pointing at it once he found it. "Well, it wasn't me. And there it is. You do live in this building, don't you?"

"You wouldnae arrest wee auld me, woods ye? Do I look like I could do you harm?" Her smile was innocent and sweet. Her eyes looked him over. She probably could take him. Maybe not easily, but her great advantage was that no one expected she could. They didn't realize she took kick boxing and martial arts classes at the gym as well as yoga and zumba and the girlier classes. They didn't know she lifted weights. They just saw some cute girl with an accent that sometimes disappeared completely and sometimes was too heavy to understand, depending on her mood. Right now it was balanced. Bridie was easy to understand though her words were heavy, her o's long, her r's rolled, and the slang crept in without thought.
He didn't believe the part about the gnomes. She could just tell. "You think I'm aft my head," she said amused. "I guess I'd think I was bampot too. But really, I'm nae lying. You can ask my roommate."
She didn't feel like answering his question about whether she lived in the building.

Teddy may not have arrested too many people, but he had been to enough parties when he was in the fraternity and seen enough girls going at each other drunk that he wasn't about to underestimate a girl just because she was a girl. He especially wasn't going to with a question like that--people only said things like that when they had an ace up their sleeve. Probably.
Instead, he ignored her question, trying to make sense out of the slang she was using instead. He took her silence at his question to mean yes, despite the fact that he wasn't sure that was wisest, and decided that he wasn't going to try to escort her out of the building because of it.
"Oh, I'm sure it happened," he said, nodding, though he wasn't sure why such a thing would have happened at all. "It just seems kind of silly. Also, you weren't putting the gnome in my freezer, were you?"

Bridie had to admit that she liked how suspicious he was of her. She couldn't blame him exactly. It was what a normal person would do. It was just refreshing purely for the fact that most of the people she knew weren't normal and didn't react like normal people.
"It's very silly, I can't disagree." She looked over to where the lawn gnomes were. "I was goin' to put them in your freezer, as I thought they were yours and all. But Jos wanted to get rid of her coosin's shoes," she said, hoping he'd now realized that Jos was the crazy one and not her.

Teddy nodded along to her story, but he wasn't exactly on board with it. This girl must be on something, he reasoned, because none of that made any sense. Whoever Joss was had a problem with shoes and might have been lurking somewhere also on something, so he glanced around just to make sure the rest of the hallway was clear.
"Right," he said, pressing his lips together so he wouldn't roll his eyes. "So, you're saying that I look like the kind of guy who keeps lawn gnomes in his apartment?" He gestured down to himself, to the ratty sweatpants and t-shirt and socks. "Or, I guess, in other people's apartments?"

Shrugging her shoulders, she grinned. "It's a college town, isnae it? Folk do weird things here. Ye probably 'hink I am insane, bein' dressed as I am. Carrying 'round green gnomes and Will's shoes, but pure am boringly sane."
She dropped the shoes then. And feeling crazy and bold, she leaned in and kissed Teddy. Nothing ridiculous, just a quick kiss. He was quite cute and he didn't believe her one bit, no matter what she said. And she knew he wasn't going to believe her. So might as well.
In that moment after kissing him, she took off, leaving Will's shoes and the lawn gnomes behind. "Classic misdirection," she yelled in glee, having obviously watched too much Archer.
She knew he'd think she was crazier than he already thought. But Bridie couldn't care one bit. Her night was already ten billion times more interesting than it was before.

Teddy couldn't argue with that. He had seen people do a fair amount of strange things when he was in the frat--and had been dragged along to do strange things both by other brothers and his best friend. "Right," he said, nodding along.
He stopped nodding quickly, however, when she leaned in and kissed him. He made a strange sound, somewhere between one chuckle and a whimper, and blinked. For a second, he wasn't sure what had actually happened--he thought maybe she had punched him and his brain had turned it into some nicer, less violent memory. But when he felt his face, there were no abrasions, bruises, or blood and she was already halfway down the hall.
Since she was gone, there was no point in bothering her and now that they had locked lips, he wasn't sure he wanted to. Instead, he stumbled back into his apartment and deadbolted the door.
