Brendon is not an open book, nor is he a simple creature.

When his stepmother takes time out of her busy work schedule to give him the time of day, she might tell him how proud she is of him and tune him out for the rest of the evening. His biological mother constantly tries to get in touch with him, so either he roots from desperation or is doing something right in his life. His father spends time with him but doesn't say much. The man never really had much to say to Brendon, prompting the latter to avoid him on a regular basis. His uncle, the one man who lives nearby and showed an interest in him, has been disappointed ever since the shoplifting incident.

Therefore, the senior believes that relying on himself is one of the surest ways to go about things. Unfortunately, working alone is not always doable, as he is a film major and intends to produce in his life many more films than what he already has for school. He forces himself to be amiable (or passable for "friendly") with strangers, such as a student he's never met before, if it means getting something important done. More often than not, Brendon can come off as a jerk, someone with only himself and his achievements on the brain, and he realises that others see him this way. He has no intentions of changing who he is.

Occasionally, Brendon will give others the time of day without putting himself first. He's not entirely selfish, even if he can be a bit straightforward and rude with everyone and appear as though he's almost completely absorbed in what he's doing. Friendly or not, he cares a great deal about what few people he can call "friends," and his rather impulsive behaviour often leads him into helping them out with whatever they might need, within reason. He would get into a fight for them if it came up, even though he hates violence (outside films, of course!).

His impulsiveness also lands him into trouble, though less these days than before. Generally, Brendon believes in the value of hard work and earned money, but there have been instances when he lacked the necessary funds and resorted to stealing, even something as small as a pack of gum. Telling himself that he could get away with it is one of his greatest joys. A few years ago, when he got caught stealing a DVD, he cleaned up his act . . . for awhile. Now he just does it less, rather than not at all, and he's gotten a lot trickier with it. He would never steal from someone he likes or anyone he would have to see on a regular basis, as he doesn't want to risk feeling guilty (which probably won't happen any time soon) or giving away that he was the culprit.

In addition to film, physical health is incredibly important to the young man. A jog, push-ups, whatever it takes to burn off the calories of the day and stay fit, he'll do it. This is a big reason for why Brendon is averse to things like cigarettes and alcohol: they cause far too much damage to the body for his liking. (It also explains why he sometimes feels guilty for eating too much or having sweets every now and then, no matter how delicious they are.) While he has nothing personal against the people who smoke or do drugs or drink alcohol, he will avoid them or, if forced to be around a smoker, ask the offender to put the thing out, albeit a little rudely.

Once he gets going, it's hard to stop. Filming, planning, thinking, whatever, he zones out from the rest of the world. Others have explained it to him before: it's as though he's in some sort of trance or, if he's active, only what he needs to do exists in the world. Brendon finds it a little amusing when it comes up, but it's one of the many reasons that people might find him a bit self-absorbed. He doesn't necessarily mean to tune others out, but he won't apologise or anything.
