Jack is loud, talkative, outgoing, and…well, loud. He is flamboyant and likes people to notice him. He naturally does things to get him the most attention, and likes to burst out into song whenever the mood suits him. Jack will talk to or at pretty much anyone, even if they don’t really care what he has to say. He loves gossiping and is absolutely terrible at keeping secrets, unless it’s a major, life-changing secret. Jack loves drama and likes to be in the center of knowledge, though he doesn’t always enjoy being involved in the actual drama—he just loves talking about it!
It’s pretty obvious to anyone who has ever met him that Jack is gay. He has known this about himself pretty much his entire life, and his parents had a pretty good idea that he was gay by the time he was about five. Jack was raised to be who he wanted to be and love whoever made him happy, and it completely shocked him the first time he found out that not everyone was raised this way. Because of this, Jack is extremely open-minded and has a hard time dealing with homophobes and others who are fairly close-minded. He has been a victim of bullying quite a lot in high school, and he is very sensitive to underdogs and those who are misunderstood.
Jack can be a bit annoying. He never really shuts up and will harp on things over and over again. He tends to give out fashion advice pretty bluntly, and can get very catty. Jack tends to hang around girls more than boys, and loves talking to them like a girlfriend, even though they don’t always appreciate this. Jack has had his fair share of crushes, but he tends to keep them quiet until he knows the object of his affections might feel the same way. He does not push his sexual orientation on others. Jack is open about who he is, but does not go around broadcasting it. He wants to be the center of attention, just not for that reason. Jack has a lot of friends, and likes chatting and shopping. He is nearly fearless, and attacks life with abandon.
A bit of a fashion whore, Jack loves dressing people. He likes making his own clothes and adding special things to his outfits, especially things that sparkle. He thrives when asked about fashion advice, and goes all out when occasions such as Halloween come around. He is absolutely obsessed with music, and will talk about it for hours on end. If you ever mention music to him, be prepared for a long conversation with him about songs and singers and musicals, complete with a lot of energetic hand movements and mansqueals. Jack is very excitable and tends to blow things out of proportion from time to time.
Jack isn’t much of a talker when it comes to his dad. He doesn’t have very many memories involving Gary, and so he doesn’t really say much about him. He is pretty close to his mother and talks to her weekly, if not daily. He loves going back home and goes to New York City any chance he can get.

Gary Thatcher and Robin Meadows met in New York City. Gary, a police officer, was a very straight-laced and cautious man. Robin, on the other hand, was a free spirit who had come to New York City on spring break and never left. An aspiring singer, Robin’s big mouth had led to her being at a peaceful protest over sea lion hunting that turned not-so-peaceful. Sitting in the back of Gary’s patrol car, she struck up a friendly conversation with the arresting officer. Gary, for his part, was taken aback. Why wasn’t she cursing at him and threatening to call some sort of environmental group?
By the time he had pulled up to the station, Gary had not only promised Robin a warning instead of an actual charge, but he had also promised to take her out later that week. The charmingly awkward pair went on several dates and eventually fell in love. They married exactly two years after they day they met.
Despite Robin’s family’s insistence that their daughter come home, Robin and Gary made New York City their permanent home. Robin continued to pursue her singing career, and Gary supported the two of them with his meager police officer’s salary. The arrangement continued well for a few years, and then a kink appeared in their plans—Robin was pregnant. Gary knew his salary would not be enough to support all three of them, so Robin put her dream on hold and took a job at a travel agency. Gary and Robin welcomed their son Jackson four years after their wedding.
Life went on normally for the next five years. Jack was a precocious, bright little boy who loved being the center of attention. His mother showed him old movies and instilled a love of Broadway theatre in him, and he often bounced around the apartment singing show tunes and trying to stage numbers with his toys. Just as he was entering kindergarten, Gary was killed in a car accident while on the job. Robin was absolutely devastated, and she turned to alcohol to help keep the painful memories of her now-deceased husband away. Little Jack was left to fend for himself. It wasn’t until social services stepped in and threatened to take the boy away that Robin realized what she had been doing. She got herself sober and rededicated herself to her son. She became Jack’s biggest supporter, doing everything in her power to make sure he could go to every audition and workshop he could. And he thrived with it.
By the time high school rolled around, Jack had been in every musical and play that his schools had put on. He had his heart set on attending the most prestigious theater schools in the country, but he knew his mother could never afford it and there were only so many scholarships available. Rather than putting undue pressure on his family, Jack decided to attend the smaller, less expensive school of Orange Island University. He still dreams of being on Broadway one day and will probably never let go of that goal.
