Zara has always liked to know how things work. As a child, she spent many hours tinkering with her toys and was far more likely to be found deconstructing something than actually playing with it. Whilst her peers were carrying around baby dolls (and her mother buying her every one in fashion), Zara was much more at ease taking apart her brother's electric train, for example. Naturally inquisitive, she loves to learn and goes to great lengths to stay on top of her game.
Things in Zara's working world simply have to be just so. Far too methodical in the workplace for her own good, Zara keeps things on military time. She is never late for work, never has a hair out of place and prides herself on never missing a trick.
As a junior medical examiner for the police department, she is very thorough and can sometimes be a little too over enthusiastic. Zara believes that everything has a place and she likes to know where things are at all times -- she doesn't appreciate when people move objects around for no apparent reason. If there is a scalpel out of place, she will notice and she will have a little huff about it. That being said, Zara isn't anal (clearly), if you saw her outwith work then you'd be certain that she had a somewhat messier twin floating around. In those instances, she is far more likely to be late, windswept and generally more manic.
Aside from her need to control certain aspects of her work life in such a manner, Zara is a very personable young lady. Making friends is quite easy for her and she handles difficult people quite well with her southern grace and hospitality. She simply likes people and is a loyal friend, although it has to be said that she gets on far better with males than with her female counterparts. Just don't get on her bad side -she can certainly live up to her fiery red-head stereotype, just about the only thing she inherited from her mother.
One thing that can hinder Zara slightly is her need to prove herself -- going beyond the call of duty can often land her in sticky situations. Luckily, she is very, very good at talking her way out of them.
Talents & Skills: fixing things, sports, making friends, making her parents crazy, singing, and dances a mean ballroom dance!
Weaknesses: cooking, using her imagination, holding her alcohol, controlling her temper.
Likes: sports, chocolate, her job, reading informative journals (and sometimes period romance novels), hanging out with friends, animals, pizza.
Dislikes: smoking, cooking, girls who think they are better than everyone, small children, germs, salad.

From a very young age, Zara was beyond certain that she had been born into the wrong family.
Christie Sterling had lived in Roswell, Georgia her entire life. Once graduating from the local private school, Christie made her debut into society aged nineteen and loved all that came along with being a debutante. Social gatherings and dance lessons were the highlight of her week and she enjoyed nothing more than filling her social calendar with frivolity, whilst making time every Sunday to attend the local Baptist church.
Meeting Jackson Sterling was by no means the stuff of fairy tales. Having caught her eye at a cotillion, Christie was introduced to the debonair gentleman who had recently moved to the area from neighbouring Sandy Springs. Jackson was immediately impressed with Christie's nature and found her reasonably handsome, intrigued by her red hair. After meeting her family and courting for the acceptable amount of time, Jackson and Christie were engaged, and shortly thereafter married in the Baptist church that both families attended.
Starting a family was of the utmost urgency. Christie was desperate to do her duty and provide a son to please her husband. As fate would have it, a son was what came a year after they were married and Jackson Jr was the spitting image of his father. Having a young son proved to be somewhat of a chore for Christie, however. Finding that her husband, an accountant, was never home and she was left to amuse a small boy herself was a harsh reality for the young woman. Although she loved her son, Christie found herself dreaming of having a daughter she could fuss over. She was certain that a girl would be far more interested in dresses and baby dolls than the trains and cars she had become so accustomed to.
Years went by and Jackson Jr was joined by Michael and Robert. Christie grew more and more forlorn and her desperation for a daughter was the reason for many arguments between husband and wife. Finally, when their sons were 6, 5 and 3 years-old respectively, Christie and Jackson welcomed a screaming red-headed girl into the family.
Zara May Sterling was not an easy child from the beginning. Fussy and finicky, Zara was not what her father expected of one of his children and she found herself being defended day in and day out by her doting mother. Christie was in heaven and loved nothing more than to dress her daughter in the most ridiculous dresses and bows known to man.
Aged around four, Zara began to rebel. Having three brothers, she found herself chasing after them in the back yard, much preferring to fight and play catch with them than to stay nice and clean in her perfect pink and white nursery surrounded with dolls. This was not an easy pill for her mother to swallow and it caused tension in the relationship. Zara was banned from any kind of boyish pleasures and forced to do things much more appropriate for a young lady in the making.
All of these new rules and restrictions merely gave Zara the time to do what she loved most, finding out how things worked. Taking things apart and putting them back together was what made Zara tick and after a few mishaps involving Robert's favourite train set, she proved to be quite adept at it. As she grew, Zara drove her mother to distraction by asking the most inappropriate questions about how things worked, eventually finding her true interest in the human body. Although, this is not strictly true, at first Zara was content to dissect any deceased animal she came across. The day she dissected a skunk in her bedroom was one that she, and her mother will remember for all of eternity. It was days until Zara could sit down.
Announcing as a preteen her choice of future profession should not have been such a shock to her parents. As soon as the word 'doctor' had left her lips, her mother went pale and her lips pursed tightly together before she lost all sense of decorum and exploded into a somewhat colourful rant as to what was deemed an appropriate job for a young lady of her standing. Zara was, despite her protestations, attending cotillion dance classes and looked set to make her debut into society in a few years time. Her coming-out to society was the one thing that her father showed any great interest in and the matter was set in stone.
As Zara approached graduation with excellent grades, her parents attempted to shrug off her ideas of a future in medical school by laughing about it with their society friends. Even as her applications to colleges were mocked as her parents were ever doubtful of her abilities and determination.
Aged seventeen, Zara packed up her belongings and began her foray into college life, determined to prove her parents wrong. Compromises had been made in order for Zara to be allowed the schooling of her choice and Zara had promised that she would return and complete her debut following her graduation. Christie and Jackson were certain that she would not take to college life and were foolishly under the impression that she would come home after graduation and meet her match in society. This was not to be the case -- Zara did her duty and attended her debutante ball, shortly thereafter applying to medical schools, none of which were anywhere near Roswell.
Zara was born to be in a place of learning and it was whilst she was attending medical school that she discovered where her true interest lay, as morbid as it was. Examination of cadavers wasn't exactly the norm for a young girl, after all.
During her time at school, she also developed a keen interest in the sports that she had never been allowed to play as a young girl, using them mainly as a way to unwind after a hard day.
Many years and a great amount of hard work and dedication later, Zara completed her residency at OI Regional Medical Centre. After a brief and very frosty visit home, Zara accepted a job as a Junior Medical Examiner at the Police Department in OI, fleeing the disapproval and disappointment of her family.| E X T R A S |
As a Junior Medical Examiner, Zara currently assists the Chief Medical Examiner with autopsies, being allowed to perform some smaller cases without direct supervision.

Professor Emelia Lucie was in a controlled state of panic. It was her first time teaching a real class all of her very own but she knew that she could do it. She sighed and looked around the school as she made her way to her office. How strange to be back at Hogwarts and stranger still to be on the other side of the desk; it had only been seven years since she had left and returning had been like coming home to Emelia.
Having settled into her new office the previous day after a long journey, a stack of papers lay on what was now her desk. On the piece of parchment that was tied neatly to the front was a note explaining that these were a cross-section of the last assignments that her soon-to-be classes had handed in. Dismayed at some of the translations, Emelia was suddenly thrilled to find one which was word-for-word perfect in it's translation. An idea formed and later that evening she penned a letter to the student who had almost the same skills as her at that age, arranging to meet him to discuss the possibility of him tutoring the students that were having a little more trouble in the subject.
She wasn't altogether certain that the student would be willing to undertake the challenge, having mentioned his name in passing to a fellow professor during lunch. An eyebrow was raised and a smirk had danced across Professor Edward's face, departing the Great Hall with a snigger. Emelia was certain that he had wished her good luck as he disappeared into the crowd of students descending on the tables of food.
Arriving at the designated meeting place in plenty of time, Emelia was shocked to find a young man already at her door, knocking then patiently waiting for a response.
"Drake Elliot, I presume?” she smiled as she muttered an incantation to unlock the door.| P L A Y E R |
