Abby squealed, jumping slightly, as her cell phone vibrated unexpectedly in her back pocket. Who would be calling her? The number was not showing in her caller ID...Curiousity got the better of her as she flipped the phone open and to her ear.
"Abby speaking...Hello?"

Abby blinked in confusion. She hadn't called anyone all day, and the last message she left had been..well...she could not remember. The voice rang with a tone of familiarity though, distance but familiar. Abby's tone devolved from perplexed to sheepish with having to admit and ask what she knew was a necessity.
"I didn't call anyone today...Ummm...I am sorry, but the caller ID didn't show...Who is speaking?"

Teddy? Abby's mind whirred through it's memories. The only Teddy that popped to mind on Orange Island was a classmate a year or two back. That was strange to be calling out of the blue, but she had apparently done that to him...Awkward...and funny at the same time. Very serendipitous. Abby tucked her hair behind her ear on the opposite side of the phone.
"Teddy from Orange Island U? Wow, it's been ages...It must have been a misdial or something earlier. How you been?"

"Well, um, things have been good. Still slogging through a forensic degree. I haven't seen you around campus. You out in the big, real world now?" Abby asked jokingly, trying desparately to change the mood from awkward funny to light funny...on her end at least. If her memory was serving her right, Teddy was pretty laid back...or was that his friend and he was the crazy one? Abby sighed internally at her lack of ability to remember.

"Congrats to both of you on making it onto the force. I feel safer already," Abby replied cheerily with not a hint of sarcasm in her voice. "Forensics is the same old, same old. Nothing special...matching bullets, chemistry, and dead bodies..."
Abby's face turned red at the realization of how that sounded, and, as with her talent for it, promptly stuck one foot in her mouth right after the other.
"I didn't mean like that...The dead bodies thing. They are special...Oh no, I mean not in the good way, but they aren't something to be lightly...just..."
Abby sighed and chuckled off her embarrassment, "Maybe I should stop while I am ahead. Two feet in my mouth is bad enough without trying for a third, eh?"

"Ahah, don't worry. I'm around coroners all the time."
"Guess so...Good thing for me," Abby chuckled. "With any luck, I'll be seeing both cops and coroners in a year's time after graduation."
Abby was feeling strangely social when an idea sparked in her head, a rarity in and of itself. If she did not already know Teddy, it would never have flow let alone formulated in the girl's strange brain. She ight just actully wind up in a short year working with Teddy and Hugo on a fairly regular basis, and wouldn't be a horrid idea to keep in contact and catch up until then. If Abby believed in signs, this might qualify.
"You know what. We should really catch up properly sometime soon. Would you be up for coffee or something?"
