Avery peered at Nate. For a bartender, he was pretty useless at knowing his patrons.
"Everyone goes to bars looking for sex." She swiveled around in her chair, scanning the patrons, and finally pointed out a lone guy doing something in some convenient pointing location. "Like that dude. He just wants to rock and roll all night."

"That man?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. "That's Harvey. He's almost permanently stoned."
He leaned against the bar, watching Avery again. "You're just trying to prove a point because you go to bars looking for sex. You're a hypocrite, do you know that?"

"I don't go to bars looking for sex!" she said, folding her arms. "But, if I did, I could find hundreds of other people also looking for sex. Just saying."

"You wouldn't find hundreds," he argued. Nate hated exaggerations almost as much as he hated lying. In his mind, it was the exact same thing as lying. "Maybe five. And besides, these aren't exactly the best specimen to choose. Alcohol lowers your inhibitions. Anyone with enough alcohol will have sex with anything...without looking for it."

"Yeah, but why do you think lonely guys go to bars?" she asked, raising an eyebrow. "They go to find those people who are not looking for sex but who are totally willing, ergo they are looking for sex."

"Or they go to drink," he countered, gesturing to the liquor bottles behind him. "That was your original argument. Now you're changing your points."

"No, my argument is that I come to drink." She shook her head at him. "I think you're getting confused. Maybe you need to go to a bar looking for sex."

"If I wanted to look for sex I sure as hell wouldn't do it here," he sighed, refilling another drink and sending it sliding down the bar. "There are guys here. I'm not gay. And I wouldn't pick someone up from a bar anyway. Especially not one like this one."

Avery rolled her eyes. "Don't you know anything? You go to Lucky's if you want to pick chicks up. Or 2020. That's where all the college sluts are." She shook her head at him, taking a long sip of her drink. She was starting to feel the buzz.

"College sluts have gotten around so much they're walking petri dishes," he argued, wrinkling his nose juuuuust a bit. "I don't want to be exposed to every STD in existence, thanks."

"Nate," she said, reaching a hand across the bar to clap him on the shoulder. "I'm gonna help you out with this. I will find you a college slut who hasn't been around the block too many times."

Nate peeled her hand off his shoulder. He wasn't sure if she forgot that he wasn't really comfortable with contact, or if she did remember but didn't care. Either way, her hand was not going to stay on his shoulder.
"I don't need help, thank you. I'm not looking for any sex."

Avery was feeling pretty good by that point and she ignored his distress about her hand, sliding it back over to her drink.
"Don't worry, I'll do it for free." She grinned.

"I wasn't going to pay you for anything," he said, ignoring the fact that she was at least buzzed and therefore not paying much attention. "I don't want sex right now."

"I don't feel like moving right now, so you're in luck." She gestured at him, not sure what she intended to achieve by the gesture, but doing it all the same. "But next week--we'll go out. We'll find dates. It'll be great."
