Hometown Orange Island all his life!| P E R S O N A L I T Y |There is no arguing the fact that most people's first impression of Evander is that he's kind of a jerk. People in general don't really impress him; in fact, most of them are pretty stupid, in his opinion, and he tends to not have a lot of patience for those around him. While he doesn't always necessarily mean to be rude, the fact of the matter is that he doesn't really care how his words come off; he usually says exactly what he's thinking, and a lot of times his sarcastic commentary and muttered quips can be taken harshly.
While he isn't really as much of a jerk as he might seem, he's pretty okay with the assumption as it keeps him from being bothered most of the time. While he does keep a small group of friends and doesn't mind having company, it greatly depends who that company is as he is kind of antisocial and highly prefers to hole up in his room or the library working on his homework or reading research texts about one thing or another. In fact, most of the time he would probably prefer to study in his room than go out and actually do things. This, of course, is not just because he's antisocial-- he is genuinely a pretty big nerd and actually loves researching and learning more about his fields of study. He's quite logical and intelligent and tends to take many classes at once since, as he sees it, he doesn't really have much else to do. Why not fill his day with something interesting and worthwhile?
He's not completely boring, though-- once you get to know Evander, his little quirks and funny aspects of his personality begin to show through. He's quite selectively enthusiastic and gets excited about little things, like when the on-campus cafeteria offers vanilla pudding, or when his cat doesn't take off the little bow-tie he put on it. He's actually quite playful and has a silly side that only comes out around those closest to him. He tries very hard not to care too much about most stupid or high-spirited things as he prefers to be low-key and keep to himself, but here and there, he'll find something that amuses him and support it in his own way.
Evander's main problem is that he doesn't think very highly of himself at all; he has very little self-confidence because he was trodden on and picked on by his older, stronger brother and treated as second-best by his family all throughout his childhood and that manifested into a sense of bitterness and self-doubt. He is not very strong and he doesn't really like sports or physical activity, always preferring to curl up and read rather than go outside and play. He has never really liked being noticed or being in charge of anything and he has never participated in very many after-school activities or extracurriculars. He is soft-spoken, and rarely has a huge amount to say. He doesn't like to let people down, so he's always very noncommittal unless someone insists on being his friend, at which point he usually accepts it because he's also kind of a pushover.
So, Evander really has not had the greatest home life or childhood, and as a result he has grown to be sort of angsty and bitter about it, but usually just when it occurs to him to be. He can come off as very emo at times, dressing mostly in muted tones or slumping against a wall in a corner in his hoodie not talking to anyone. He doesn't have a close family at all, so it sort of confuses him when others are very enthusiastic about theirs. He dislikes talking about his personal life and usually has to be prodded a lot before he will open up about himself. He loves listening and learning about others, but he really doesn't talk about himself very often. If he has a problem, he will usually keep it to himself until someone forces him to stop bottling things up, and he's often frustratingly hard to read because of his muted demeanor.
Strengths:
• Logical - Evander knows when things make sense and when they don't. He understands the best way to go about things so that they'll work, and he knows how to put things together to answer a question or come up with a creative solution to a problem. He's very good to have in your group for a project or assignment (though he may not enjoy it so much). He's also very intelligent and speaks very well, and though he dislikes ignorant or dim-witted people, he has a high respect for other people who can express themselves in a competent manner.
• Loyal - Although Evander is kind of antisocial, the few close friends he keeps are very important to him and he will go out of his way for them whenever the opportunity arises. He is a good friend and a good listener, making him a great person to confide in or go to with problems. He will always hear out his friends and offer solutions or ideas to situations, even if they're petty or silly.
• Good - While he does have his meaner tendencies, Evander is, in general, a genuinely good person. He has a heart and will not turn anyone away if they truly need his help.
Weaknesses:
• Judgmental - The downside to having above-average intelligence is that Evander tends to judge others that might not be as smart or quick-witted as him. He thinks other people's problems are usually petty and he generalizes most people as stupid before really giving them a chance. People can occasionally change his mind, but they really have to stand out to him in order for him to take notice. He's quick to write someone off and doesn't really have the patience for a lot of people.
• Dislikes change - Evander likes to stick to a routine and although he has been known to be spontaneous at times, if something he is used to changes drastically, even if it's with the intention of making it better, it takes him a while before he can accept it. He is of the strong belief that if something is not broken there is really no need to fix it.
• Bitter - As a result of his not-so-great upbringing, Evander has become kind of a bitter soul and is often quite cranky or grumpy. He doesn't like most people and he will express whatever he is feeling out loud, which causes him to seem like a jerk or a bully. He believes most people will simply let him down.

Evander was the second child born into the well-to-do family of an energetic and idealistic lawyer and aspiring politician named Scott Rosemont. Life had always looked optimistic and bright for the Rosemonts; Scott owned a law firm partnered by his lifelong best friend, Richard Dawson, he was newly married to his beautiful and supportive wife, Jane, and he was making enough money to keep his family happy for the foreseeable future. They had a lovely home next door to the Dawsons, and they were expecting their first baby, a boy who they would name Adrian, after Scott's grandmother, Adrienne.
The Rosemonts were very strong-minded and conservative. Scott liked to call himself an "idea man" because he was always coming up with ways to improve or benefit the community and the way things worked. When Adrian was old enough to attend daycare, Scott took the first steps to put his dream into action and ran for Florida state senator. Even though he had such a strong stance on the issues and many liberals did not like that about him, he still presented several new and innovative takes on things and that made him a very popular candidate. He was elected shortly after, and in the middle of the celebration dinner party that they threw, Jane announced that she was expecting their second child. It would be another boy, who they would name Evander, after Jane's late father, Evan.
This news came as a complete surprise to Adrian, who was now a spoiled little four-year-old and, thanks to his parents, had grown up with complete confidence that he was the best gift the world had ever received. At first, he simply didn't believe his parents. Clearly, they were just being silly, and every time they repeated that he was going to have a new little brother, he laughed his head off like they had told a very funny joke. However, once he started watching new furniture and paint colors and baby showers happening, he began to really learn what this meant, and it did not sit well with him. He was not impressed with the idea of being forced to share Mommy and Daddy's attention with another child, and screamed and cried every time the subject was brought up around him. Although they reassured him that they would always love him the same whether or not there was another baby around, he still would not have it and so, by the time Evander was actually born, it was destined to be an unstable relationship from the get go.
As the two brothers grew up, it was very clear who was the older brother and who was the younger. Adrian was bossy, mean, and picked on Evander to no end, mostly because he'd never wanted a little brother in the first place, and now he had to deal with one trying to play with his toys and video games, eat his snacks, and tag along with him and his group of friends all the time, and that, in Adrian's eyes, was stupid and annoying, just like his brother. Evander, who wanted to look up to Adrian but couldn't because of how he treated him, felt like he had somehow done something wrong to cause his brother to hate him, like he was an unworthy person somehow. Even their parents seemed to favor Adrian, since he was stronger, more independent, a rough-and-tumble little boy, full of boyish energy and always the leader of his friend groups and captain of all of his school sports teams. Evander, on the other hand, was weak, quiet, reserved, liked to read instead of play outside, and was always the last one picked for teams in gym class. He wasn't really very good at any of the things he was expected to be good at, and although they loved him and tried not to favor either of their children, Scott and Jane looked at Evander as a little bit of a failure, as he would clearly not be the next in line for anything that made their family important.
Because of how his brother treated him, Evander had taken to spending most of his time over at the home of his best friend and next-door neighbor, the Dawson's daughter, Avery, whose family didn't really like her either. She was also bossy and mean and violent and energetic, but instead of taking it out on Evander, she took it out on everyone else and stood up for Evander. In a way, he liked Avery because she acted like the older sibling he should have had, even though she was only a few months older than him. As a child, he admired and depended on her, following her around because she was the only person he wasn't afraid of letting down, but soon their relationship became more balanced as he got older and smarter and learned to stand up for himself a little and realized that he wasn't quite as useless as he'd thought, and that his brother was just a jerk. His self-confidence didn't completely restore itself and he always felt a little bit like he wasn't good enough, but he nonetheless managed to hide his bitterness behind sarcasm, banter, and even a little bit of bullying back-- behind Avery, of course.
Eventually, the family became busier and busier as Scott moved up on the political track, and Avery's grandfather became more of a father to Evander than his own father was. Evander's own family never really bothered with him anymore, because Adrian was set to be as big and powerful as his father, the son the Rosemonts could be proud of, the one that would make something of himself, while Evander had, in their eyes, fallen very short. He dressed carelessly, his hair was unkempt and always too long, and although his grades were excellent, he didn't participate in any after school activities or try to make himself worth something in any way. They had essentially given up on him, and so he had turned to his second family, Avery and her grandfather, for the love and support that he'd never really received from his own.
Evander went to the same prestigious private school as Avery throughout elementary and high school, and he'd always managed to keep to himself and stay out of the spotlight. He'd had friends at school, but never very many and none that he considered himself to be very close with, since most people in his grade were older than him as he'd been moved up a year in elementary school. He spent a lot of time in the library reading and studying and even had a small study group that he interacted with, and although he didn't really like the school, he was doing well and was comfortable with coasting through and not making waves. However, in their sophomore year, this all changed. Avery, who was always making trouble that Evander had to choose to either laugh at, clean up after, or simply roll his eyes at and ignore, had pushed things a little bit too far when she'd decided to paint over the homecoming mural with her own "creative additions" and had dropped Evander's library card that she had been borrowing at the scene of the crime. They linked Avery to the act, since she was obviously the troublemaker of the pair of them, but because they had found evidence with Evander's name, they couldn't justify letting him off, and so he and Avery were both expelled.
His parents, of course, wouldn't hear that it was Avery's fault, even when she vouched that it indeed was and told them they were stupid, and they saw it as just another mark towards Evander being the child who let them down, and so he was sent off to follow Avery to public school to finish the rest of his high school career in shame. He was highly annoyed at Avery about this, but because he'd never really liked the private school that much anyway, he wasn't all that bothered by anything except the mark on his permanent record. He held the grudge, but not very strongly and they continued on together all the way until college. Evander applied for several ivy league schools, but all of them came back with the same thing-- that he had an excellent application and they would have been excited and proud to have him except for the whole being expelled from high school thing, which none of them seemed to be able to overlook. Frustrated, Evander finally begrudgingly settled on the university Avery was going to, because they would accept him, and at least then he would have Avery there with him.| A P P E A R A N C E |
At first glance, Evander may seem a little bit unapproachable. He's sort of scruffy, with medium brown hair that he likes to keep chin-length or longer, though occasionally he'll cut it all off and start over with it when he feels like he needs to look presentable. He dislikes shaving because he feels like a bare face makes him look much younger than he is, but he also dislikes being too gross so he does maintain his facial hair nicely. His eyes are a stormy greyblue with flecks of hazel that are apparent in sunlight, though he does try to avoid sunlight as best he can. He is not very tall, but he is sort of an average height, and because of his low-key personality he can seem kind of strung out when you first speak to him.
On any average day, Evander wears mostly dark colors, browns, greens, blues, greys, and darker purples, and he's almost always wearing long sleeves due to being cold all the time. He likes hoodies a lot and he'll nearly always have one either on or with him. He sticks to whatever he's most comfortable in; long, soft sweaters and dark wash jeans, usually. He also likes wearing beanies and hats. And staying in his pajamas as long as he can get away with.
Comfort is also first when it comes to formalwear; Evander was brought up in a very conservative family that always threw lavish parties and forced him to wear uncomfortable monkey suits that he would wriggle and fidget in until he got to take it off. He grew to hate these, and in his adolescence he starting making his own style decisions about what to wear when he had to look nice. He likes to rock button-down shirts and little vests with suspenders and a bow tie, and the occasional fedora if he's going for extra fancy.

• Evander has a boy cat named Osthanes. He likes to put his cat in bow ties and little socks and also make things for it like a cardboard box cat kingdom under his bed.
• Evander has a sort of selectively insomnia; he can sleep if he so chooses, but he doesn't because he feels that he is most productive at night and that sleeping is kind of a waste of time. He can function just fine on 4 or 5 hours of sleep, though if he pushes that and loses too much sleep he does tend to crash at the end of the week and spend an entire day just sleeping without so much as making contact with anyone.
• Evander is always cold, and is almost always either wearing or carrying a sweater or hoodie. He can wear a hoodie in any kind of weather and be completely comfortable, even if it's a million degrees outside in the blinding sun. He hates being anywhere where it is unnecessarily cold. He hates snow, and also winter. Florida is a good place for him.
